16 Days Kenya, Tanzania Combined wildlife budget camping safari,  Aberdares, Lake Nakuru, Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro wildlife budget camping safari

Heading out on our 16-day combined budget Camping Safari our first stop will be Samburu National Reserve in Northern Kenya. Samburu has a permanent water supply resulting in spectacular bird life, some of which are endemic to this area of Kenya. We then travel to the Great Rift Valley Lake of Nakuru, famous for its impressive birdlife and diversity of wild animals, including black and white rhinos.

From Nakuru we drive south over the Mau Escarpment to Kenya's premier game reserve - The Masai Mara. The Mara Game Reserve is one of the top Game Reserves in Africa and home to an abundance of wildlife, especially the Big Cats. If we are lucky and its that time of the year we will witness the Wildebeest Migration, one of the most spectacular wildlife displays on earth.

Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve

Depart Nairobi we head north via the shoulder of Africa's second largest mountain, Mount Kenya, making our way to the Samburu Game Reserve. We camp beside the Ewaso Nyiro River under shady palms and woodlands. The camp has refreshing cold showers to freshen-up in and escape the heat of the African plains. The highlights of Samburu game reserve is the spectacular scenic beauty, rivers and forests. It is an area where the local people have a rich and colorful heritage. The reserves have numerous permanent springs and a wealth of wildlife which includes leopard, hippo, elephant, lion, reticulated giraffe, grevy’s zebra and crocodile in the Ewaso Nitro River. Over 365 species of birds have been identified in the sanctuaries. Dinner and overnight at Jamiiecotented camp

Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve

Samburu Game Reserve has Several species are considered unique to the region, including its ts unique dry-country animal life: All three big cats, lion, cheetah and leopard, can be found here, as well as elephants, buffalo and hippos and Ewaso Ng'iro river contains large numbers of Nile crocodile.

Full day game viewing in Samburu Reserve, exploring its open grasslands and diverse landscapes in search of the variety of wildlife found here. Samburu hosts beautiful forests, springs and rivers, offering stunning scenery. The game park is part of a lava plain that includes varied habitats, from thorn scrub, red dirt and dried river beds, to broken volcanic rock, steep hills and rocky outcrops. This region of Kenya is home to the uncommon Grevy's zebra with huge fury ears, gerenuk antelope standing on hind legs to feed, Somali ostriches with distinct blue legs and the shy Oryx. Elephant and crocodile are guaranteed sightings and lion, hippo and giraffe are also found in the reserve. The bird watching is excellent, with over 365 species, including numerous varieties of weaverbirds and the martial eagle. Leopard sightings are also a special feature here. The Samburu area is also home to interesting people with a rich heritage, making for a colourful cultural experience. Dinner and overnight at Jamiiecotented camp
 

Day 3: Mountain Lodge

Depart Samburu after breakfast and drive to the lower slopes of Mt. Kenya arriving Serena Mountain Lodge (tree hotel) in time for lunch. Relax the afternoon away as you watch game from the balcony with an optional guided nature walk. Overnight floodlit game viewing - Mountain Lodge rightfully boasts of having the highest record of animal visits and sightings in the area. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Mountain Lodge - Lake Nakuru

Depart Mountain Lodge in the morning and drive to the floor of the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park making a brief stop at Nyahururu Thomson Falls. Arrive in the hotel in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake on the edges of Nakuru town and lies a distance of 160 kilometers from Nairobi. The lake is world famous as home to millions of flamingoes. The number of flamingoes depends on the water level which determines the quantity of algae on which the birds feed. Flamingoes are known to migrate to other Rift Valley lakes whenever the water level is low. The National Park surrounds the lake and was gazette to protect the colony of flamingoes as well as provide sanctuary for endangered species such as the rhino. There are about 25 white and black rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country. Predators are also residents to this park while Rothschild’s giraffe have been trans-located into the park for safety

Day 5: Lake Nakuru - Maasai Mara

We drive via the floor of the scenic Great Rift Valley, Masai mara camp in time for lunch. We have afternoon to evening game drive. After our game drive, we return to the wildlife camp for dinner overnight stay.

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is arguably Kenya’s most popular game sanctuary. It is the most famous and most visited game reserve in Kenya. The film ‘Out of Africa’ was made to a great extent in this reserve. Virtually every type of wildlife can be seen at the Mara. A spectacle worth seeing is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and the Mara River to reach Maasai Mara grazing fields from late June. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed from early July to August. The reserve abounds with birdlife since dose to about 452 species have been recorded

Day 6 & 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Full day game drives for each day in search of Africa's Big Five and the plethora of other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets that make for spectacular photos.

The Mara Reserve covers 1510km˛ of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodlands, following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwest Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is typical open savannah, with a mass of amazing wildlife. Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara Park you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Elephants, buffalos, zebras and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot, but reasonably common. The ultimate action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October. Balloon trips are an entirely outstanding way of seeing the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost. Dinner and overnight at the safari camp.

Day 8: Nairobi

Depart Masai Mara in the morning and drive back to Nairobi arriving approx 13:00hrs. Drop at hotel. Lunch on own account/afternoon at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel on Bed & Breakfast basis. Optional dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant.

DAY 9: Nairobi - Amboseli National Park

Depart in the morning and drive south to Namanga, the Kenya/Tanzania border to arrive in time for lunch. After lunch enter into Amboseli National Park with a possibility of seeing game on the way to the campsite. Dinner and overnight at the Camp.

Amboseli National park is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Kenya. It is situated close to Kenya. It is situated close to Kenya- Tanzania border, The Park lies at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5,896m) whose snow-capped summit presents a splendid view on clear days. Amboseli National Park is often referred to as “The home of Elephants’ some of the largest Elephant herds are found here. The Game Park also contains vast groups of Zebras, Wildebeests, Giraffes, Buffalos, Hippos and Antelopes. Also to be found in Amboseli are lions, leopards, Cheetahs, Rhinos and many species of plain game

DAY 10: Full Day in Amboseli National Park

Full day of game viewing in the Park. Amboseli National Park is located at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. The snows of the mountain form a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya's most popular spectacular displays of wildlife - lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, buffalo and host of plains game, creating Kenya's most sought after photographer's paradise. Meals and overnight at the camp.

Day 11: Amboseli - Lake Manyara National park

After breakfast, we drive into Tanzania via the Namanga border. We also pass through Arusha for lunch and proceed to Lake Manyara National park with Regardless of the direction we approach Manyara from, the view is always fantastic. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara jambo campsite

Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake that is part of the Rift Valley wall; the lake is at the base of this dramatic western escarpment giving it a beautiful and serene setting. In addition to this peaceful setting, Lake Manyara’s main attractions are its rich bird life, tree climbing lions and its hippos, which you can see at a closer range than many other places. Lake Manyara also hosts thousands of flamingos at certain times of the year and has diverse vegetation ranging from savannah, to marshes and acacia woodland, enabling a variety of wildlife habitats including butterflies.

Day12: Lake Manyara - Serengeti National park

Morning game drives at Lake Manyara national park before proceeding to Serengeti national park with packed lunches. Game is viewed as we proceed to Serengeti Seronera campsite for overnight stay.

Day13: Serengeti National park

Days spent exploring the vast park rich with abundant wildlife. You also visit the northern part of the park – Seronera with an opportunity of seeing the annual wildebeest migration. Dinner and overnight stay at Serengeti Seronera campsite

Serengeti is Africa’s most famous and Tanzania’s largest park covering 14,736 sq km and is adjoining with the Masai Mara National reserve in Kenya. With a wildebeest population of about 2 million and several other hoofed species (which include zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, impala, topi, Grants gazelle, Kongoni, Eland, Kirk’s dik dik, klipspringer, roan, Oryx, oribi, waterbuck, buffalo, giraffe and warthog), the Serengeti is sure to attract a string of prey such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, golden jackals and bat eared foxes. Elephants are relatively scarce and the few remaining black rhinoceros are restricted to the Moru Koppies area.

Serengeti also offers rewarding bird viewing with ostrich and kori bustard being common, a variety of larks, finches, and raptors can be seen but the most distinctive small bird is the lilac breasted roller.

Day 14: Ngorongoro Crater tour

After an early breakfast, we drive south to the magnificent Ngorongoro crater descend into crater for a full day crater tour interrupted by a Packed lunches. Dinner and overnight stay at Ngorongoro Simba campsite.

The Ngorongoro crater is the world’s biggest whole volcanic caldera at 8300 sq km and is arguably the most stunning arena. It is frequently described as one of the wonders of the world, not only because of its geological magnificence, but also because it serves as an extraordinary natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s largest populations of large mammals.

Day 15. Ngorongoro

After breakfast descend down to the crater floor for ˝ day crater tour, returning to Ngorongoro Serena Lodge for lunch. Afternoon at leisure with optional visit to a local Maasai village. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Pls note: Only ˝ day tours may be allowed at the crater.

Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. It has been described as one of the great natural wonders of the world.

Another morning game drives in Serengeti, departing after lunch for Ngorongoro via Olduvai Gorge for a brief visit of the museum. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

It is frequently described as one of the wonders of the world, not only because of its geological magnificence, but also because it serves as an extraordinary natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s largest populations of large mammals. Ngorongoro and other freestanding mountains are volcanic in origin, formed during the fracturing process that created the Rift valley 15 to 20 million years ago. When it peaked in size 3 million years ago it was a similar height to Mt. Kilimanjaro today

Day 16. Back to Arusha -Nairobi/Out

Depart Ngorongoro after breakfast and drive to Arusha. Lunch at Impala Hotel then to be assisted to board afternoon shuttle bus back to Nairobi arriving approx 18:30hrs (a flying option is available). Drop at your hotel or at the airport for onward flight.
