10 days Kenya, Tanzania wildlife migration safari takes you to the Mara which offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe: over 450 species of animals have been recorded here, Lake Nakuru which is also known as "Pink Lake" or Africa Bird's Paradise. And Tanzania’s premier parks like Lake Manyara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro crater wildlife tour. In Tanzania, Ngorongoro Crater is said to have the world’s densest population of lion. In Lake Manyara lions have developed a liking for residing in the branches of trees, where they can both sleep and watch for prey whilst the Serengeti is notable for its large migratory herds of wildebeest and zebras with strings of predators in trail. The Ngorongoro crater also offers amazing wildlife viewing and scenery

11 Days Kenya and Tanzania safari, Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater budget camping safari

A fantastic 10 day Kenya and Tanzania budget Camping Safari which starts from Kenya's one of Africa's best game viewing destinations Masai mara!

This Safari will start off with a journey to the beautiful Masai Mara via the Great Rift Valley witch offers spectacular views of the Masai Mara Park we will spend our time in search of the wildlife that makes this one of Africa's premier National Parks. The Masai Mara is especially famous for its Large Cat population and also the fact that it plays an integral role in the Wildebeest Migration, wildlife spectacular like none other on earth and ends at Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. It has been described as one of the great natural wonders of the world.

The scenic and wildlife adventure of this long Kenya and Tanzania Camping Safari ends back in Nairobi on the last day.

Day 1: Nairobi - Masai Mara

Departing from the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, we drive down the escarpment via the floor of the scenic Great Rift Valley

We arrive at Masai mara camp in time for lunch. Located near the Masai Mara Game Park, our safari camp is tucked away in the cool shade of indigenous trees, offering an escape from the African heat. We stay in permanent tents that are self-contained and fitted with feature beds and en suite bathroom areas. In the afternoon game drive in the Masai Mara game reserve where in the night you can hear a chorus of different animal sounds as they communicate with each other in the darkness.

Maasai Mara (Masai Mara) is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves. Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing eco-system.

The Wildebeest migration has now left the Maasai Mara and they are in the Serengeti National Park heading south to where they will give birth in February – March next year.

They will be back in Kenya around July and leave again around late October, so look into safaris now for next year. Plan early.

Made famous by the abundance of the big cats, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and the Great Wildebeest Migration and the Maasai people, well known for their distinctive custom and dress.

There is a wide selection of places to stay in and around the Maasai Mara and the conservancies surrounding it . The conservancies surrounding the Maasai Mara have restricted number of vehicles allowing a more private game viewing of wildlife.

Safaris including the Maasai Mara are without a doubt some of the best you ever get. To get the best out of your safari time, try a book at seven day safari at least and cover two or more other destinations.

The Maasai Mara Ecosystem (see our map) holds one of the highest lion densities in world and this is where over TWO MILLION Wildebeest, Zebra and Thomsons Gazelle migrate annually.

Maasai Mara National Reserve stretches 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and raises 1,500-2,170 meters above sea level. It hosts over 95 species of mammals and 570 recorded species of birds.

It’s about 270 km from the capital Nairobi City and takes about 5-6 hours by road or 40-45 minutes by flight. The road is great for the most part. there is a section from Narok town to Sekenani Gate that is dirt road but fairly good. The other road through Lemek and Aitong town is not good day all, very bumpy.

Day 2: Masai Mara Game Reserve

Full day game drives in search of Africa's Big Five and other wildlife inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange tinged sunset’s well-worth capturing on camera.

The Mara reserve is 1510 km˛ of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodland following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is typical open savannah, with a mass of amazing wildlife. Wherever you go in the vast Masai Mara you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos are also found in great numbers. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal, or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot, but reasonably common. The ultimate action here is without doubt the annual wildebeest exodus, the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grass eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October. Balloon trips are an entirely outstanding way of seeing the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost. Accommodation on this tour is at one of two safari camps located in natural settings near the Masai Mara Game Reserve. We stay in permanent tents with either twin or double beds. All tents feature en-suite bathroom areas, with flush toilets and hot showers, and are fitted with mosquito nets.

Day 3: Maasai Mara - lake Nakuru

Pre breakfast game drive, return to campsite for late breakfast and leave your campsite and proceed to L.Nakuru arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Nakuru Hotel.

The park lies in Central Kenya, 140km north-west of Nairobi, in Nakuru district of the Rift Valley Province. The ecosystem comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grasslands. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with Flamingos (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds being the major attractions of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white rhino and buffaloes and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru – Nairobi

Morning game drives then depart drive to Nairobi, drop off at Comfort inn hotel to freshen up - proceed to the Carnivore restaurant for dinner return to the hotel for overnight stay

Day 6: Nairobi - Lake Manyara National park

Early Morning departure to Tanzania via Namanga boarder , lunch in Arusha then proceed for for afternoon game drives Regardless of the direction we approach Manyara from, the view is always fantastic. We proceed to a campsite for dinner and overnight stay.

Lake Manyara is a lovely scenic park on the road from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater. The lake itself takes up much of the park leaving a strip of land running down its shores where game concentrates. Famous for its tree climbing lions, good elephants and baboons, Manyara is often visited for an afternoon's game drive on the way to Ngorongoro.

Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake that is part of the Rift Valley wall; the lake is at the base of this dramatic western escarpment giving it a beautiful and serene setting. In addition to this peaceful setting, Lake Manyara’s main attractions are its rich bird life, tree climbing lions and its hippos, which you can see at a closer range than many other places. Lake Manyara also hosts thousands of flamingos at certain times of the year and has diverse vegetation ranging from savannah, to marshes and acacia woodland, enabling a variety of wildlife habitats including butterflies.

Lake Manyara's game concentrations are not nearly as high as surrounding parks but there are a number of unique species that are reason to safari here. Lake Manyara's tree climbing lions are the parks main attraction. Why these lions habitually climb trees is still up for debate but viewing a pride relaxing in an acacia tree is an incredible site. The park is also famous for its elephant, huge number of baboons and due to its varied landscape has an impressive range of other game including wildebeest, buffalo, hippo, flamingo, zebra, warthog, waterbuck, dik-dik and impala. The birding here is very good, especially raptors.

Day7: Lake Manyara - Serengeti National park

Morning game drives at Lake Manyara national park before proceeding to Serengeti national park with packed lunches. Game is viewed as we proceed to Serengeti Seronera campsite for overnight stay.

Day8: Serengeti National park

Days spent exploring the vast park rich with abundant wildlife. You also visit the northern part of the park – Seronera with an opportunity of seeing the annual wildebeest migration. Dinner and overnight stay at Serengeti Seronera campsite

Originally created to preserve the path of the Great Migration, the Serengeti and its surrounding reserves cover nearly 30,000 square kilometres. Throughout the year the huge wildebeest and zebra herds move in a clockwise direction around the plains, searching for fresh grazing grounds. To maximise your chance of viewing the herds, choosing the right accommodation, for the time of year you are traveling, is crucial. Have a read of the Great Migration page on the tool bar to gain an understanding of the movement of the herds. Seeing the migration in the Serengeti is really the best you can get from a Tanzania Safari

The Serengeti is Africa's most famous park. Renowned for the two million strong wildebeest 'Great Migration' and incredible concentrations of predators, the Serengeti is a park that guarantees an exceptional safari. The vast endless grass plains (Serengeti in Maasai) are the richest grazing grounds on the continent; home to the largest herds on the planet, and the highest concentrations of predators in Africa.

Serengeti is Africa’s most famous and Tanzania’s largest park covering 14,736 sq km and is adjoining with the Masai Mara National reserve in Kenya. With a wildebeest population of about 2 million and several other hoofed species (which include zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, impala, topi, Grants gazelle, Kongoni, Eland, Kirk’s dik dik, klipspringer, roan, Oryx, oribi, waterbuck, buffalo, giraffe and warthog), the Serengeti is sure to attract a string of prey such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, golden jackals and bat eared foxes. Elephants are relatively scarce and the few remaining black rhinoceros are restricted to the Moru Koppies area.

Serengeti also offers rewarding bird viewing with ostrich and kori bustard being common, a variety of larks, finches, and raptors can be seen but the most distinctive small bird is the lilac breasted roller.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater tour

After an early breakfast, we drive south to the magnificent Ngorongoro crater descend into crater for a full day crater tour interrupted by a Packed lunches. Dinner and overnight stay at Ngorongoro Simba campsite

The Ngorongoro crater is the world’s biggest whole volcanic caldera at 8300 sq km and is arguably the most stunning arena. It is frequently described as one of the wonders of the world, not only because of its geological magnificence, but also because it serves as an extraordinary natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s largest populations of large mammals. The Ngorongoro Crater is the best place in Tanzania to see the 'Big Five' and is an absolutely beautiful place to be on safari. Unavoidably, the Ngorongoro Crater is busy, at times very busy, but given it is one of the worlds most amazing natural wonders, it is going to be busy. However, due to the crowds we recommend a 2 night stay only, after that the safari time should be spent in the Serengeti.

The Ngorongoro Crater and surrounding highlands are one of Africa's most beautiful regions. Volcanic craters form stunning backdrops to some of the richest grazing grounds in Africa. The most famous is without question the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera; home to the highest density of big game in Africa. With 600 metre high walls and a rich volcanic floor that plays host to the big five, the Ngorongoro is one of the continent's most famous safari destinations.
