Day 1: Arrival in Zimbabwe
Arrive in Zimbabwe and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 2: Little Makalolo Camp, Hwange National Park
After a wonderful buffet breakfast we catch our early flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and then board a short charter into Hwange. We spend 4 nights at Little Mak and on two of these days we will be extremely fortunate to do activities that are not typical of any safari.
On our first morning we will join the anti-poaching unit of Hwange NP and get first hand tracking lessons, learn about their challenges with poachers and what they need to do to ensure the survival of the elephants and animals of Hwange. We will spend the day bush walking and tracking large game on foot, tracking spoor, learning how their water systems work and assisting with any conservation work at hand all the while viewing wildlife throughout the day.
Our goal is to provide the “Friends of Hwange” trust with a new solar water pump to provide water 24/7 into one of their waterholes.
Day 3, 4 & 5: Little Makalolo Camp, Hwange National Park
Our third day is spent at leisure and we will go on twice daily game drives to explore the fields and plains of Hwange. We will see an unbelievable amount of wildlife this time of the year including buffalo, lion, leopard, eland, kudu, zebra, giraffe and impala.
On our 4th day we drive through the park to a remote school in a poverty stricken area. This morning we will get to interact with the children, assist in handing out their lunch (which to many children is their only meal of the day), play soccer and our aim is to donate a new solar water pump and tank which will mean a huge relief to many young children and teenagers who are responsible for fetching and carrying the water over many kilometres to their homes.
Our afternoon is spent on a relaxing sunset drive watching wildlife and enjoying a glorious dinner under the stars.
After our last morning drive and leisurely breakfast we depart Hwange for the mystical Victoria Falls.
Day 6 & 8: Ilala Lodge, Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls is next on our list and we spend 3 nights at the classic Ilala Lodge – the closest hotel to the famous falls. The hotel is perfectly situated in an enormous garden with a delightful view of the spray from the falls and the magnificent surrounding trees provide a cool relief on hot days.
Often warthogs and guinea fowl come to feed in front of the terrace while guests are having high tea. In Victoria Falls we will visit the national park, go on a luxurious Zambezi River Cruise and enjoy a traditional dinner at the Boma Restaurant.
Day 9 : Departure
After another sensational breakfast, we head off to the airport where our journey has come to an end. We have a variety of extension options we can highly recommend to add on to this itinerary.
